The Danish architects Henning Larsen were the successful candidates in a competition for the design of a new city centre building to house the University of Plymouth’s Faculty of Arts. In the summer of 2007 the building was complete, after 30+ months of construction. Named after the University’s then Vice Chancellor, the Roland Levinsky Building adds a distinctive new dimension to the city’s changing skyline and, from within its copper-clad exterior, houses a range of Faculty Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses, meeting rooms, offices, teaching space and lecture theatres, plus a performance space, cinema, gallery and café - the latter facilities being part of the University’s ambition to develop further links with the city.

The images here are a small selection from the photographic documentation of the building’s development from 2003 to 2007, which utilised a re-photographic approach, from both looking onto the site and looking from within.
